Grace: It was not easy to track, but your husband is correct, there is a Carnegie in Waukegan. It was praised in the writing of Ray Bradbury, a frequent user.

Also, on “books chained to desks” I recommend
Library:An Unquiet History by Matthew Battles
(Norton, 2004)
